Position: Field Coordinator
Terms: Full Time, Permanent
Reports to: Director of Production

PRIMARY FOCUS:

The Field Coordinator is responsible to liaise with growers to ensure the proper growth, handling and storage of potatoes in order to meet our quality standards. The Field Coordinator is also a key position in negotiating contracts with growers within their region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee and assist with seed preparation, planting yield trials, maintaining research plots, pollinating, note taking, and harvesting.
Sourcing out potential growers and participating in negotiations of contracts.
Provide growers with up-to-date information on crops, soil fertility, weed and pest control, harvesting and upcoming developments in crop technology.
Organize, supervise and accurately record trial plots.
Consult the Plant Manager on up-coming orders.
Ensure food safety standards meet or exceed the HACCP requirements, which must be maintained at all stages, from soil testing through to delivery of the primary product to the plant.
Update and maintain an individual growers performance record which will be used to determine whether or not to increase, decrease or terminate acres grown.
Ensure that certified organic product used by growers meets the Organic Certified Standards as set out in federal and provincial legislations.
Provide input into and manage the field production budget on an annual basis.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A diploma/degree in Agriculture, or equivalent experience.
General farm experience and familiarity with farm equipment.
Ability to frequently travel.
